burning through with the spoolmatic 3

i just purchased a old spool matic 3 today and was using it on some alum.
the problem is i keep burning through.. i was useing 1/8 alum checker plate not shure what grade of alum tho ,, its on a mm251.. anyone know what settings i should have it at for 1/8'' and 1/4'' alum.?
