Trailer Fender height

Thanks for the help on the tongue as it's almost done...Next question Is I need to replace the fenders that are gone anyway this is a car trailer with tandum axles. At what height should I put them above the tires?? Thanks Again

When mounting the fenders on my trailers I use about 4 inches of clearance above the tire. Dave

4'' is a good preferance
but you should use the distance between the axle and the frame if it is underslug springs. i figure then u can overload your trailer alll the way and still be clear on hight between fender and tire
if it is an outragous distance use the 4'' tho..
i tend to use little piece of 4x4x4'' block of steel i got laying around to get an acurate space.

Another way to figure fender height on a tandem axle is to measure from the bottom of the frame to the bolt holding the spring to the equalizer. What ever that distance is just add a little more for clearance. This way you will know the true amount of possible spring travel. Dave

Correction: after re reading it I didn't explain properly

Should say: measure from bottom of frame to the bolt holding the spring and shackle together, not the bolt from the shackle to the equalizer. Dave

4 inches should work, just make sure you re-enforce the fenders good because that will be the first place someone will step to get up onto the trailer and first thing you know they'll be rubbing against the tires once they get bent down. Good Luck!
