    I have done several "brush hog" gears with 7018. They are all still running after 20+ years. A couple of them sounded bad at first but wore in and sounded ok after that.

    Yep. It will work just fine. I save the "end of the roll" when changing out GMAW spools (SS and mild steel) for GTAW small work.

    Go fast. I'm retired now but used to help build metal buildings. The purlins were nearly always 14g. I used a Bobcat 225 and my friend used a Ranger 8.
    We used Hobart 1/8 6011. Not the best choice but they were 1/3 the price of everything else and he supplied the rods.

    After insuring good work clamp connections, the next think I would do is replace the receptacle (for the sprinkler transformer) with a "dedicated ground receptacle." They are available at most electrical supplies, not likely to be found at the big box stores.

    I'll probably get flamed by everyone for saying this, but I have yet to see a successful GMAW weld on a cracked aluminum hull. I have repaired MANY hulls that had first had GMAW repairs attempted.
    As AAMETALMASTER said, stay away from that miracle zinc rod!
