  • Aluminum spool gun work

Doing 100 pcs. I just do the welding as my customer is the machine shop. Not sure what the end use is but we (the machinist & I) did this job for two years & then lost it due to price. Apparently the end user has bought them from a few different people since then for less money & finally realized cheaper isn't always the best option so now they are back to us because of quality issues.

Aluminum round that has a cavity bored into it with some ports & a slug with fancy machining on the inside that is then pressed in. I just preheat & weld. 3/64" 4043 wire, 27.5 volts, 4.5 wire speed on a 30a spool gun, two passes, wire brushed, done.

The first three or four looked like they'd be fun!

Does that weld get machined off?

No machining per say, just some holes drilled & tapped on the welded surface.

Those look a lot like the base of load cells we use on our scales.

Im really surprised that the machine shop doesn't have a welder.

The machine shop doesn't need a welder because they have me. They don't have a enough welding to justify a welder plus they don't have any space for a welding area.
