Looking for advice to do better welding tie-ins with a 6013 stick welder. Any advice would be helpful on this topic.

What do you mean by tie-ins, are you refering to tying two welds together?

Tie in's... Re-starts very important when it comes to welding. Not a lot is said about them but I cant say enough how much of an importance they are, especially in multi-pass welding.

So those looking to get certs in pipe or plate.
should take close attention to gettin it right

I sorta figured that is what was meant, but just wanted to be sure before I started, I've made that mistake before.

Whenever I'm restarting midway through a weld, or tying two together, I like to grind the existing weld down a little. When starting on an existing weld I strike the arc a little ahead of where the actual weld begins and make sure that the arc is stable before beginnging the weld. It is also crucial to make sure that no slag is left from the previous weld.

Personally I prefer 6010 or 7018, but for 6013 (when I have to) I make sure that all the slag is gone and start a ways ahead, long arc back to the crater of the previous weld, and then get down to buisness.

I hope this makes sense, I tired and hungry, and waiting for dinner...
