  • Vintage MX Bike Silencer End Cap

The silencer of a two stroke MX bike needs to be packed with fibreglass to keep the sound down and the horse power up.
Back in the early days the silencers were welded shut so making them throw away. But with a little effort we can rebuild them.

First cut the end off trying to make the cut as straight as possible.

If there is any packing still inside remove it.
Wear a face mask and wet the fibres first then place old packing in a sealed plastic bag.
This old packing will be dead from oil and carbon.

I went down to my local ali shop and purchased tubes that were as close to the diameters as possible.

Cut the tubes to the right length and turn or sand to fit.
Bevel all edges for ease of fit.

Drill and tap threads in the new end cap to fix to silencer body.

                    Hi Aametalmaster,
                    Thanks for the kind words.
We have three ali shops within 20km.
They sell 6061 T6 pretty cheap too.

                      Hi Bob,

Did you ever try Clinton Aluminum? I believe they're in Alliance, I use them all the time for both aluminum and stainless steel. I know for a fact they're in Stark Co. I was going to say I'd have to wait till Mon to pull an invoice but they do have a web site.

Only about half an hour from you. Probably.

                      Hope this helps
