  • Boredom, Creativity, and Hood Pics!

Got bored today and decided that it was time to take care of some issues that i seem to have with both of my hoods (even though i hardly ever use the speedglass hood anymore). welding in the booths at school (llucky for me they have continued the journeyman training day program for all of us that are still on the bench) it drives me nuts when i get the the light from the weld up from the bottom of the hood, and from sparks getting in my ear. so i took and old leather coat and some velcro and super glue from the local crafts store and solved my problem. nothing is permanant to the hood so if i decide i don't like it, i can pull it off and no damage to the hood.

go for it strube! make sure u grab the industrial strength velcro, and I only had to use the super glue inplace of the self-sticky velcro on the leather side only. I did not put any super glue on my hood. good luck!

What fun is it if you don't get sparks in your ear?

                  Great Idea!

Patent that idea and you'll never have to wear that hood again. That must be an old hood - with the union stickers on it....do they still have unions in the U.S?

                  Thanks for the idea!

Nocheep... even though i use ear plugs when welding it still gets annoying for me to have sparks sitting on the earplug.. plus that foam smells kind of funny when it smolders

Great idea. I was wondering if you can see to walk around with your hood in the up position? Not knocking your idea, I just picture the front flap hanging way down.

backpurge, it will actually fold over the front of the hood in the up position, seems to stay up there for now, see what happens when the headgear starts to loose it grip tho. worst case, its only velcro-ed on so i can pull it right off if it get annoying while walking around
