    Been watching...

I've been hanging out here a bit to see if anyone has engaged in anything as stupid as me so I can share with all alongside my less than brilliant comrade in mutual disgrace. Although there has been few dandies herein worth noting and of course the injuries which always provide enjoyment to the reader, it appears that I will have to continue waiting for an opportunity to divulge my story of cranial short-comings.

    Until then,

      Handle with care......

Just two days ago, I went to pick up some fairly large sheets of glass from a supplier. I am currently involved in a fairly large project that entails sand carving some indian artwork onto the glass so that it may be installed inot a stairwell in one of the local and prominent hotels here in town. Of course there is a march 31st deadline as well.

I picked up th eglass and placed it on a rack that i built in order to carry the it . The rack went into the back of my chev 1500. No problem getting it home from the supplier... Four sheets @ aprox 40x80 inches beveled, cored and cut on angles.. I got the glass home unloaded one peice and left the rest in the back of the truck. I have no place to store such cargo therefore leaving it on the truck is the best thing in this case.

yesterday I had to go and get some more supplies. I really didnt want to because of this glass but...

So i secure the load that ive completely unstrapped and head out. My supplier is only two friggenmiles from my shop. I stopped at an intersection and when the light went green I started to move. Well the truck lurched, as its a standard and I guess the fact it was cold helped.. that was just enough to get the glass and the rack moving and as the lurch turned to acceleration the glass and the rack were neatly deposited on the road behind my truck and in front of the guy behind me.... I watched it all happen in the rearview..I have a vivid image of my stupidity burned cleanly in my mind.

So now, there is 300 pounds of broken glass which HAD a value of about 2 grand on the road in the midlle of rush hour. Do you think anyone would stop so that I could clean it up?
No, they all just pointed and laughed... I dont know how Im going to recoup this loss. God hates me Im sure.

I've had a shining moment or two

A few years ago I was on a job site and was doing some work up in a box loft of a packing house and forgot to bring up my grinder with me. One of the other contractors said here use mine, so I did. I have always disliked grinders with and on-off switch instead of a paddle switch and this day just reaffirmed that belief. I just got done with some welding and was using a wire wheel on the grinder (with out the handle I might add) when it caught on the edge of the metal and proceeded to flip over in my hand, taking with it the top layer of skin off of my right hand, the grinder hits the floor and takes off running til the thing runs out of cord and unplugs itself. In the mean time I'm tending to my newly acquired wounds, cussing my self for being too darn lazy to get my trusty ole DeWalt and what do I do? You guessed it, I pick up the same darn grinder and plug it back in, not thinking about it still being switched on. As soon as the plug is barely in the extension cord, there it goes and flips over in my left hand from the starting torque. So now here I am standing there watching the grinder take off across the floor again with both hands looking like they went through a meat grinder thinking to my self, I can't really be that dumb to do it twice can I?

That was about 12 or 13 years ago and the scars are healed up pretty good but you can still see them a little. I'm not sure how good you can see them in the pictures but they are there all the same

I don't know Monte, looked like a sunburn to me...
Actually, same thing happened to me quite awhile ago...I was using a 5" knotted wire wheel cup, taking off rust off a piece of 6" C channel, caught the edge with the wheel and it jumped into me tearing up my t-shirt and my stomach. Thought I opened my gut up, but when I peeled away my t-shirt, it looked like a horrible road rash. My friend came back and freaked when he saw my bloody t-shirt, and proceeded to laugh when I told him what happened
No scars to show, 'cause the vast amount of hair is now covering it up

Why the sad face about the tetnus shot?!! Are you one of those guys that can take a bullet, but afraid of the doctor with a little needle???
btw, maybe I should have gotten the tetnus shot too, maybe that's the way I am now...
(actually I was looking for a cheap way to lose the fat off my stomach!)

We were bringing some heavy equipment onto a roof with a crane. One of the jurneymen holding a guide roap wasnt looling at what was going on. The rope somehow came up, wrapped around the guys neck picking him off the roof and sending him towards the edge. 16 story building. The foreman had just enough time to call the operator to drop the cable. That guys luckey day. All went down in like 4 or 5 seconds.

Same job different guy. Holding a guide roap. Not paying attention. Hit in head with 15000lb
                  heat exchanger. Ouch.

C'mon TacMig, Fess up for us. Maybe your story will stop one of us donkeys from having something bad happen or the like.

You do realize I hope, that your unwillingness to divulge is causing the level of curiostiy to rise exponentially with the amount of time that passes since you posted your thought concerning your past experiences and not so savory shinanigans.

My most memorable moment was as a 24 y/o punk doing constrcution electrical work. Im on the 7th flor of a 10 story lowrise and the steel stud guys are laying track with their hilties and ramsets. Some of the 25caliber (or is it .22) rounds dont go off so they are simply tossed to the floor and a new strip is loaded with ten new shots. Well I USED to like taking these unspent , discarded rounds and smaking them with my hammer. GO BaNG!!! The very last time I did this my aim was off by a quarter inch and the shell burst at the cartridge butt. The azz end became a projectile and flew down the length of my hammer and then firmly buried itself in the 3rd knuckle of my index finger. It didnt bleed, looked very gross and I couldnt bend my finger... I went to see f I could get first aid to look after it. I told them i jabbed myself with a screwdriver.... yeah..he said there was nothing he could do.. I had to go to the hospital. I went to a walk in clinic, told the doctor that I think there may be someting in there but not sure... she said I cant help you you need to get an xray. Im starting to wiggle now.. So i go home, and get outhe metal detector... I pass it over my finger and it beeps at me... Sigh... I think theres something in my finger for sure now...I went to the hospital and they took ou thte azz end of the shell. It was a painfull experience even with the local. My finger is still scared to this day and looks like its got a wart on it.. The women LOVE it and the way it looks...! Its quite numb too. That was my last experience with making things go boom... Have a look at the photo. ive still got my stupity reminder... cheers all and try to stay safe.

That is indeed a dandy. It's difficult and in some cases, nearly impossible to beat the humor of a serious injury such as yours and in this case you come pretty close to nicking the paint. As far as stupidity however, it only ranks about a 5. The humor however, at a 7 has you in close running. I will divulge and say that I have about 17 scars from the incident that I will photograph and share to show how serious it was as the scars are still almost as they were 14 years ago. But the acquisition of said scars is what lies a stake herein. The stupidity factor has earned me a local reputation as the "XXXXXscale) ie. once I partake in the confession festivities herein, thereafter this board my refer and/or use stupidity ranking with the "TacMig scale". So again I will monitor this thread with vigor in hopes of an equally stupid comrade.

                        Till then,
                        TacMig

                              Elvis Said...

Thank you ... Thank you very much.

Monte, Its a NUMB & SE XY finger wart... Get it right! If you want I can show you how to do it...????? Hm?

Mmmmm I havent had macadamia nuts in a long long time...Yummy. I knew there was a reason why I was dumb enough to do something so stupid...

Ive had this dam thing on my finger for almost 25 years, no , not quite, 17 years. I have to be careful I dont hook it on stuff because then it hurts like a mf'er and the doctor will not remove it because he figures its a gamble and I would then have to heal for a predetermined time (3-6weeks) Uhg.. Its the Dumass injury that keeps on giving and reminding... Im willing to bet that once im dead, buried and rotten IT'LL STILL BE THERE!!!!!!

Im not sure whether I should be proud or embarrased...

TACMIG, you cant win if you don't buy a ticket.
