  • filler rod for tig welding carbon steel

    I do very little tig welding of carbon steel and for the size of the electrode can a coat hanger wire work ok or what should I be using

    70S2 would be my suggestion.

      You can get bare steel tig rod 70-S3 or 70-S6 in 1/8" and 1/32" wire. Its the same wire as mig wire but bigger dia...Bob

        I have never heard of 1/32 wire. I think you meant 3/32 or 1/16th.

          Whatever you do, do NOT use a coat hanger. Coat hangers are made of crappy steel. It's OK for a quickie exhaust pipe repair or something like that where strength of the weld is not critical, but for anything else use a 70S filler rod. They're not that expensive and even less if you buy a 10# box.

                70s-2 is good, but 70s-6 will run better. you'll get a cleaner puddle and better looking weld
