  • OT Small CNC aluminum project

Things are slow right now so I have a little more time to play with my CNC router I made a few years ago. Although the router table is 60 x 60 inches, I like to make small projects with it. Now, this is not a precision engraving machine but I thought this came out well.

Short story: I patronize a local convenience store where I met one of the young women working there (35 yr) with 4 of the cutest little girls. My wife and I have become quite friendly with them (I have no grandchildren) so seeing these little girls is a real treat for me. This young women is an unusual and a remarkable young person. She works her butt off and is a very good Mother. She calls me Mr Nick and my wife Ms. Margaret, so you know she has been taught respect. While experimenting with smaller projects with my machine, I decided to make some name plates for her and her girls. Unfortunately, I didn't take pictures of the name plates for the girls. Time was short, they were leaving town and I had to give them to the girls. Here is a picture of the one I made for the Mom. The girls love theirs and I hope Mom will like hers too.
The material is aluminum, .012 thick x 5.25 in x 2.5 in. I use an orbital sander with about a 120 grit disc to give the aluminum the finish you see.
The blue color is actually a Sharpie marker and the gold is metallic paint applied with a tooth pick because it is such a small area. Not a big deal; just a little fun project.

First off- That's awfully nice a thing to do for someone who most likely will really appreciate it.

    Looks real slick to me.
So you're telling me...You're not nostalgic? Then, give me another word for it......
