  • Another small deck railing

I just finished another small 2nd floor deck rail job. Uneven stucco caused me a few problems but the job came out great, per the customer. I am attaching some pictures. The two rail sections on the half wall are about 7 ft long each. The long section with the center post is approx 12 ft long. This is a very nice home in a very elite part of town and the job brought $1500.
The only reason I mention the price is to give those who have previously asked what they can get for a job. Remember...location, location, location.

I'll agree some but he already had a bid and I had to be close. But....I got to drink a lot of beer doing it.

                    Railing

Very nice work. It really dresses up the balcony.
Did the price include installation? I like to try and keep the installation separate and charge my shop rate by hour for whatever it takes.
I'm assuming that you painted the railing. What is your paint application routine and brand. I have been using two coats of Rustoleum primer and one or two finish coats. We have spray painted a few jobs with hardware chain rust preventative paint and they have held up very well over the years.
                    Thanks for sharing.

The stucco columns were over plywood and 2x6 material was placed in the areas for the screws. I used a black button head wood type that takes a torx bit with the hole in the middle available at Kings. His workers will secure the center post as it is tile and they have a diamond bit to bore the holes.

I didn't keep track of the time. I did this in my spare time where I would have been playing in my shop anyway. Might as well make money messing around.

Yes the price included install. I have a 12x20 foot paint room. I use Sherwin
Williams DTM(direct to metal) paint. I hate having to prime, clean everything up and having to wait to paint. I hang the railing upside down first.....paint the pickets and the inside the channels. I then flip the railings right side up and paint again trying to cover every part very well.

                            looks great...

Did you use your plasma to cut the square holes on the top and bottom rail for the fence post to go in?

I have an electric hydraulic vertical press I made. I punch the holes with it.
I had a company make the die sets.
