  • Me Good Welder

Yesterday I had the chance due to a change in project requirements to cut off 4 welds. These 4 welds reflected about 32" of weld total.

A fellow welder once told me that "you will never really know how good your weld was until it fails or you need to cut it off."

I guess I must be an ok welder because those 4 welds were one hellva effort to remove.

    Kinda make me feel good.

And as time is going by my welds are even stating to look pretty.

        Me good welder, too.

I've been oxy welding since 1975. But, no training. I started a class in October. I've done 3/16" flat, vert, overhead and horizontal. Yep, it feels REAL good every time my coupons pass the bend test. FVOH, 12 coupons and NO failures. I KNOW how you feel.
I have a Syncrowave 250 and since I've got 'puddle control', I'd bet my welds will pass there, too. Due to class scheduling, I'll be out of class til August.
I'll be back for TIG classes, 'cause I'm hooked on aluminum.

          Becoming a good Welder

After welding for years, I found that I became a much better welder after starting to Teach welding. Not only do you have to demonstrate to your students the proper techniqes but also explain to them how and why. If you want to become better at anything you do, Teach it.

You are singing to the choir on that. I have done a LOT of teaching in past profession as a Computer Engineer. Now I am just an old retired guy, but I do read a lot.

              Keep on welding

Ive been welding alu for 13 years and it seems that the more that is done the better you get. You are right you only know how strong your welds after you have to cut them apart.
