  • What size tip for welding 1.250 .122 tubing

I dont know **** about welding. Just need to learn how to tack weld a frame I wanna build and then have a real welder finish it. What size tip for welding 1.250 .122 erw tubing?? I was gonna buy a victor tip from a website. I will buy the acetylene and oxy tanks soon. I will practice on spare tubing of the same size. Im building a motorcycle frame. I need to get a acetylene setup anyway because I work on cars at my house everyday and Im always heating up rusty bolts or chopping cars up into 4 big pieces after I strip them. I hope to learn how to weld with it but not for this chopper frame.

Why not look at the Smith outfits from Miller. https://www.millerwelds.com/equipment/oxy-fuel/outfits They come with everything you need incl tips. Prob a #4 or #5 for what you need. Where I used to work at my LWS has the Smith outfit for less than $200 with everything. Miller even has the small portable sets...Bob

Oxy/A gets a lot of "bad press" from the younger crowd, but it's certainly advantageous for selectively controlling heat on DOM tubing. I have some 40-50 year old Smith (Miller) stuff that I purchased at a farm equipment auction and the stuff performs as good today as it did decades ago. A periodic metal polishing / clean-up and the gear looks almost new too.

Don't forget to include flash arrestors / check valves either at the torch or before the regulators -- cheap protection. Adjust flow rates to account for their inline effects.
