  • Shielding gas

I'm new to all this so here is a rookie question, how can I tell if the shielding gas is working. I own an original Miller Passport and I've just added an external argon/co2 tank. Thank you.

If its not working properly or enough flow, you'll have bad porosity.

If you can hear it comming out the nozzle it's working.
Make sure the switch is flipped to the EXT tank.
Those little welders never cease to amaze me.
It's my go to welder for anything under 5/16''.

As bob just said, put the torch up near your ear and pull the trigger, you should hear the gas release in a hiss sorta.

And be sure to open the tank valve, too.

And make sure, you don't feed the wire into your ear. That might hurt.
                Obviously, I'm just a hack-artist, you shouldn't be listening to anything I say .....

Not if the ground clamp is attached to a bare toe.

All of the above and backseat tank valve. Open tank valve fully.

Not needed, all tank valves are required to fully seal at any point in their travel according to DOT. I calculated that it added days to my life by not spending the extra time turning them all the way on. A single turn seems to work just fine and hasn't ever caused any problems for me.
