  • Pulse or not ?

First I am trying to learn to weld aluminum! I have an older 185 and spool gun,
want a better system looking at a used millermatic 350 and a new 252.
can put a board in the 350 and make it a pulse welder.
The question is do most people use the pulse if they have it? I know a couple boat building shops that have it but don't use it much?
is there a downside to it? Looks great on videos!
the 350 would be about $2300 including pulse board. Thanks for info

    350p

here is a decent weld done with the Miller 350p non pulsed...when I run it pulsed it definitely puts some weld down, but the bead is a little more triangular in apperance. Running in non pulsed you can really lay some nice welds with tons of control .
Regardless its always nice to have options.

I have the same MM185 set up and use it all the time for aluminum. Why not grab some alum bits and start welding with what you have. Practice makes perfect. Just because you drop big bucks for all the bells and whistles welder doesn't mean you are going to do perfect welds right out of the gate. Just my thoughts...Bob

Bob you are probably right, with most things in my life I want to over do
what spool gun works with the 185. I had a 30a I was using but returned to owner . I'm sure the 185 doesn't need that heavy of gun?
