I have a shopmaster 300,curious if the fan is suppose to run all the time the unit is running? Also wondering if it's suppose to is there a way I could put a thermostat on the fan so it only runs when it needs to?

Depending on the serial# yes, Putting a thermostat (actually 2 or 3) in there may be a problem with heating parts that you don't want to get heated. You can put a switch in to turn off the fan
