  • Optima settings for aluminum

I have a 304 xmt with a older xr gun and an optima pulser. I have never really used the optima. I am trying to weld 1/4 5000 series aluminum with .035 5056 wire 30 CFh argon. When I try to use the pulser I can't find a setting that won't burn back and ruin my tip. It welds fine without the pulser. The closest I have gotten is on program 2 adaptive arc length around 30 but it will still burn back. I guess I don't understand the factors I have to play with. Could it just be feedability issue? I've burned through around 15 tips trying different combinations. Thanks

It was the pannel/ remote switch on the 304. Life is good

Curious, are you using a regular mig gun or a spool?
