  • what dig setting on cst280?

I'm thinking about playing with some n99 rod on cast tomorrow. What dig setting should I put my cst to? It has stiff and soft for xx10 and xx18. I was leaning toward running it on soft xx18. At least to start.

Just play with it to find the best setting for you.

Sweet. That was really helpful! Ok, I'll see what I can figure out. Should be fun. I am excited to play with some cast and nickel rod.

xx18 stiff worked well. Easy to start and restart.

I don't know much about what rod I was using as my friend brought it over along with an old axle that we could weld to. He brought a 3/32 electrode but it seemed a little small. I think that I would really need a 1/8 or 5/32 to get anything done. I preheated with a mapp torch up to 300-400*F first. I'm going to pick up some more n99 rod to practice some more. What size should I get? It is kind of pricey so I don't really want to buy every size there is just to practice.

Before you guys get all worked up my use for this stuff is attaching to axle trusses to cast center sections on my rock crawler axles. Personal use and it is just extra reinforcement. Truss is plenty strong without being welded to the center, yada yada.
