  • using 416SS for grill grate

My outdoor grill has those coated cast grates that just about done. I came across a bunch of 416SS rod for free. I would like to use the rod to make a new grate. I know 416 is free machining and won't weld great but I am not looking for strength here. 416 is not very corrosion resistant however will it work ok for this application and is it safe for food contact.

All you can do is try it. You might have some trouble finding some 410 rods to weld it up...Bob
