    In an older post I was asking about using gen power/ THD with the 211. Thought I would share what Miller said about it.

    " The Millermatic 211 is pretty forgiving when it comes to input power. As long as you have a generator that is providing roughly 60Hz power and at least 7,000 watts continuous 230 volt power the unit will be fine."

    Well, after some time has passed, still have no power. I took the Ridgid gen. back and now have found another half price new in th box.

    6800 running watts is pretty close to 7000 watts, think I should use it???

    The auto idle stopped working on the last one. This one I can't take back.


    At least I would have something until I could do better, but that cash could go towards an engine drive later down the road.

      Did you ever do this and did it work? I am looking to do the same, looking at that 6800 Watt generator for my MM211. I do want to use it for 1/4-3/8 steel so will need the full power.

        After flood damage, I used a 7500 watt Kohler to power my MM 252. All went well.

          So I tried it with a continuous 6800 watt Ridgid generator and it worked but I think it stumbled here and there a little bit. But it did work on 1/4" steel. I forget my exact settings but I think i tried it on voltage 8 (out of 10, with 10 being I think around 23V) wire feed 75 (out of 100%) or so, solid wire .035 . But these numbers won't mean anything except to someone else with a MM211 on 230Volts.

          Makes sense it would struggle and Miller did recommend 7000watts.

          If I think my input wattage is marginal am I better off using flux core? Seems as if you may get better penetration per input watt using flux core. Is this true? I do have some E71T-11 .035 flux core.
