  • Pipe Layout

I need to fit a 30" pipe onto a 36" pipe at a 90 degree angle. Anyone got a link to a pattern, or to a pattern making website? The 36" pipe doesn't need any cutting/layout, just the 30" does.

Thats a tuff one, I'm sure there is a formula or some type of guide but since you dont have one you can try this.

Lay the 30" pipe into the side of the 36" pipe, prop up the 30" pipe so your center lines match up, Then cut a bunch of 2" wide strips of sheet metal in different lengths You'll need 45 pcs. Then slide them across the 30" pipe untill they hit the 36" pipe and put a tack on them, once you have them going all the way around the pipe you can do a litle grinding so the fit the form of the 36" pipe, after that is done slide them back and trace the line on the pipe.

After you have the 30" pipe cut you can use that as the template to cut the 36" pipe.

I'm sure there are other way but that is what came to mind.

Another way ( After the pipes are set up ) Is to slide a straight edge off the 30" pipe and into the 36" pipe and make a mark with a soap stone and keep doing this all the way around the pipe, then cut the big pipe and once the big pipe is cut you can slip the 30" inside and trace you lines on the 30" pipe.

    Good Luck

I have lots of pipe to spare, and I have an overhead crane, so this method will work great. Thanks
