Yes. Muffler shops do it everyday.
A little extra prep wouldn't hurt the looks tho.

I welded alumized for about 8 years when i was working in the sheetmetal shop making ovens for Little Tykes. I made my lathes chip pan from it. No problems welding it. It just sounds different than bare steel...Bob

Nope galvanized burns bright white and flares. Alumized is like welding regular steel just a different noise when welding...Bob

I used to work at a shop where we did aluminizing and I used to bring my headers in to aluminize them before installing them. If you want to make an aluminized exhaust for a bike you should build the system and finish grind your welds then aluminize the pipes.

We would always sandblast the parts we were going to aluminize first with extra fine blasting media. Prior to blasting we'd wipe them down with acetone to remove any oils from machining and such. We would always preheat the parts a bit before we actually sprayed the aluminum on them.

The reason I say aluminize after you weld the pipes up is because you'll burn the aluminum off in the area you weld and will be prone to rusting in the area of the weld.

This is a you tube video of aluminizing an exhaust header. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbLHCcCegwQ

The one I used is like the spray jet 88.

I don't know how much aluminizing you could expect to do but if there's no one in your area that does it, it could prove to be a worthwhile investment in the equipment to start doing it as part of your business. I know there are a lot of gearheads in my area who'd love to get their pipes aluminized after welding them up.

yea I did. I leased a muffler shop for a year that was doing a good business already.
OEM's used aluminized from the factory before everyone went to stainless.

Are you painting them, if not I would use stainless and Polish them or use regular steel and Crome them

The exhaust pipe I buy from NAPA is thick enough to use for a driveshaft. Cheaper pipe can be found but it is thin enough to be used for sandwich wrap. Maybe thickness makes for your price difference?
