  • Recommended gas pressure

I am new to mig welding and am unsure about what a recommended gas pressure should be. Can't seem to find this information anywhere I have been looking.
    I use a co2 / argon mix.

You talking about pressure or flow?

For flow, it depends on your welding habits, size weld, position, and the diameter of the cup.

For reference, I start at 20cfh for a 5/8" ID nozzle, 30 cfh for a 1" nozzle, and adjust from there.

      I was thinking pressure.
Is flow based upon pressure or nozzle size?

Most of the regulator/flowmeters are preset for the presure and you can't change that.

Like shovelon stated your flow is adjusted for your apllication and equipment.
If you have a small mig machine(less than 250 amps) start at 15cfh and adjust from there.

to little and you will get a bad weld and to much you will get a bad weld.
use as little as you can to get the best results

The OP must have the double pressure gauge type of flow meter.
One gauge tank pressure, one gauge regulated pressure.
I don't know the psi setting.

The one gauge tells you tank pressure. You can't change this as it will decrease as the tank empties. A full bottle should be in the 2000 to 2500 range. This will change with temp though. The other gauge or sight tube usually shows cfh which should be set at about 15-20.

I have used 12 CFH., with good results. No need to over do it.

30 CFH is too much for a 110v MIG machine.

It does tell you in your instruction manual.

Well I was incorrect. The manual for the Millermatic 200 does NOT give any info on shielding gas adjustments. All it says is that different gas mixtures have different requirments as far as pressure and flow.

This is a good source of info. http://www.netwelding.com/sales_literature.htm

I saw a double gauge today and MMW is correct. One gauge is tank psi and the other is cfm.

                          Edit: should read CFH.
