  • Can Argon Gas Bottles Be Stored Horizontal

Can our Argon welding gas bottles be stored horizontally?
Our new supplier of E size bottles dropped off their first one on Friday.
I tried to install over the weekend but quickly discovered that their bottles are 100mm or 4" to tall to fit under my welding bench like the old bottles do.
The only way now is to lay it down on the floor.
Will this be okay or does the compressed gas turn liquid and start splitting out of the torch?

Argon or oxygen bottles work fine laying down. As far as I know, there is no liquid, only gas. Unless the gas turns to liquid on your side of the equator?

sounds dangerous, if you are going to lay it on the floor/under a bench, plenty of things to fall on the neck and kill or injure someone, the safest way to store a bottle is upright and chained against a wall. just buy a longer hose.

even those little bottles will go all over the place.

        Thanks for the replies.
It is only compressed gas so no liquid, even down here.
I will place it on the floor under the bench.
My bench is enclosed on 3 sides so no chance of anything falling and hitting the valve. I will even make a cover for the valve just in case.
        Thanks

This topic has been thoroughly beat to death on half a dozen boards.

You would think people would have had enough flaming each other over it.

Do a search over on welding web or AWS & you'll see it for yourself.
So you're telling me...You're not nostalgic? Then, give me another word for it......

              Hi 7A749,
I don't look onto any other welding forums just this one.
I now have the answer I was looking for so this should just fade away.

thats a trick question, you dont need any shielding gas on a spaceship!
