As you see, Rockwell, this forum, like many a long-established forum on any topic, has its self-appointed-resident-experts/arguement-leaders/opinion-arbiters/arrogant blowhards, and they don't like it when a newbie comes in threatening to steal their thunder with what others might regard as an opinion worth hearing. You might even think that when someone like you posts to an old thread in which they, the big boys on the thread, have lost interest, they could just move along to something that does interest them. But no, evidently they feel compelled to read everything and to sneer at whatever meets their holy disapproval . . . .

My now deceased friend was six years old when they figured out he was totally deaf and nearly blind. Medical experts were able to get him enough vision to drive, and hearing to, with effort, carry on a conversation. Still he "marched to the beat of a different drummer."

                Wow
I guess my thoughts of this thread setting idle for years and then being dug up in what one would be supposed to take as a definitive answer just struck me as hilarious.
                Others, apparently not so much!
                Sorry.....didn't mean to cause "drama"
It usually happens when I use shop style language around intellectual type folks.
I should have just let the thread die again, but I just couldn't resist taking a stab at it.
I guess "welcome to the forum Rockweld" would have been much more appropriate in retrospect.

I see how I could make that mistake, doing a search and not checking the date before replying. In fact, I didn't notice the date difference until FusionKing mentioned it. I guess I should start paying closer attention to that.

I guess we've all opened an old thread by mistake now and then.

As to Ed Craig, his style is definitely rather harsh. Although he is apparently a consultant, his approach would definitely put people off and make them wary. If I needed some assistance in a welding program, I would never, ever hire someone with a personality like his. We wouldn't be able to communicate.

To say that no one in the industry who uses welding knows anything about welding is an astonishing statement. If this were true, how are the cars, buses, trucks and aircraft getting built?

Although I've never been a professional welder, I've worked in several aerospace companies that build parts and whole aircraft, rocket engines and other associated items. I've seen some terrific welding and, oddly, Ed Craig was nowhere to be seen.

Oh, and I only have two advanced degrees so you may take anything that I say with a grain of salt.

hahaha. I find it strange that someone would register and with their first post dig up a seven year old thread to stand up for Ed Craig. I think OP=Ed.
