  • Magnets and MIG

Whenever I use a magnet to secure material within about 1-2 inches of where my weld will be, the weld looks like the shielding gas is off and it makes a huge mess. I'm sure I'm not the only one to experience this. Anyone know why this happens?

Yup, its called Magnetic Arc Blow. Its because of the magnetic field caused by the magnet....Bob

If you really want some fun, try to use magnets with Tig.
