I've been watching the Olympic bobsleding and was wondering what the sleds were made out of. I was thinking the shell is carbon fiber and steel, maybe chrome moly ? May be Andy might know, being the sleds are build in the Nascar area. Thanks

      Yes,
      Carbon Fiber and other composites.
I know the guy that works with them is Geoff Bodine, an ex stock car racer.
His organization is call Bo-Dyn Bobsled.

For more information about the Bo-Dyn Bobsled Project contact:

I was just on Lincoln's site and they supply welders to the bobsled team to build the sleds. Looks to me that they are steel not composites.

I saw Lincoln had their own bobsled at the Bo-Dyn Challenge where the NASCAR drivers race.

            According to this site: http://www.bobsleighsport.com/equipment/

"Is built from steel and fiberglass and padded with foam and tape."
