Howdy, new guy here. I'm looking for a smaller, less expensive machine for around the house. I have welded professionally before, mainly in a shop setting. My primary project would be a pipe fence. I would like to have generator capability. What do ya'll know about a Miller BlueFire 140? Would this machine be enough for what I have planned? Would the generator be enough to power a MIG machine (maybe a 180 series machine)? Thanks in advance.

The Blue Fire 140 is just an older version of the Blue Star 140 from what I see in the manual. It would be way too small for me, but as long as you didn't want to run any big stuff, it just might work.
The gen puts out 3500 watts which is almost not big enough to get full output with a 120v MIG unit. I have a 3500w Honda generator that I used to run my MM135 off of on occsaion. It would not run it hot enough for full power welding. It would weld, but the welds would always be cold.....and that was with .035 flux core. A 180 class MIG would not be a good idea at all. Might do more harm than good...to both the gen and the MIG.
Joe, I left you a PM on Hobart.:D

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the response. I think I just need to get a Bobcat. I have a lead on a used 225 that's about four or five years old.
