View Full Version : plated transmission sprocket

I'm putting a plated transmission sprocket on my 4 speed Harley trans. just to see for myself if there is any difference. I can't beleive they are plated just for looks because you can't see it behind the primary and clutch. I have never had an unplated one show the slightest hint of rust when it comes time to change it, although the only thing I can find that seems to favor the plated ones is "corrosion resistance".
I was just wondering if any one knows if there is any advantage to using the plated sprockets as far as wear resistance or general strength or performance goes ? :confused:

The sprocket is a PBI 278-24t.

I was too. It all started out with a chrome cam cover, then just spread like wildfire.

As for the Fred Flintstone bike I posted the picture of, I would be more worried about splinters in the but than road rash. :eek:
