Hi, I'm new here and was wondering if the syncrowave 200 has enough power to weld 1/4'' aluminum, if not what machine would be better? I heard you need 1 amp for every 0.01'' of steel and 3 amps for every 0.01 of aluminum, is this true? Thanks

It's on the light end for alot of work that size but will do it occasionally. I would use a watercooled torch and a Helium blend. How much are you needing to do?

I am looking to do quite a bit of 1/4'' lap and fillet welds on aluminum. carbon steel and ss I was jus planning to do sheet metal. Does the helium mix make the heat more concentrated? Can i use this same helium mix for mig on carbon steel?

It has more heat output. I think you need to look at a Syncrowave 250 at a minimum with what you want to do.

i'm with joebass on this one if 1/$ is going to be a stedy thing you should look tward the syn250.
as for useing the mix in your MIG after you see the $$$ of it you wont want to. also if you go to the syn250 you wont need the mix any way. if you were only going to do 1/4" once in a wile the syn200 would be ok, but as a stedy thing go syn250
as for the alum being 3amps to .01 no its still prity close to 1amp to .01
