First time hooking up H2o cooled torch question
What I am working with:
200DX
Coolmate 3
Miller DTP20MR torch kit
Torch adaptor
So I finally get some time to set up my new 200DX and ran into a snag. So the threaded end of the torch leads are RH thread, but the Coolmate 3’s threads are LH threads. I have the water cooled TIG torch adaptor w/ the red hose. I have the adaptor hooked up and it has the LH threads for the water. Now for the blue hose from the torch… I must be missing an adaptor for the threads? Why are the threads different? I might understand that if using mixed brands but this is all Blue.
So I need an adaptor right?
Thank you for your help.

It sounds like you are either not using or are missing the Dinse adapter. Check out this picture and see how similar this is to your configuration:

Hey Mark!
Industry standard is that all water connections should be LH, gas connections are RH
Your torch should have 3 lines: 1, probably black (5/8 x 18) RH thread for gas hook up; 1 probably blue, (5/8 x18) LH thread for water IN-- cool water from the cooler ; and your power cable with DINSE connector which goes back to the power supply carrying the warm water, and a red water return line off the connector to hook back to the cooler....
We have a diagram here:

and some tips for hook up here:

Of course you can call and talk to Jim-- he'd be happy to walk you through it.
Best of Luck!

If the blue line on the Miller torch is LH thead I must be lossing it. I will check it with a thread gage. I almost did last night when I was trying to set this up.

You DO have a water cooled torch don't you?
ALL water-cooled torches are left-hand threaded, if yours is right handed, it's an air-cooled torch

Good point! Yes it is water cooled. It has three hoses, black, blue and red. The Red line has the large fitting for the DINSE connector. I would think the air cooled would only have a black line with a large fitting for the DINSE connector.
I will check tonight when I get back to the shop.

Sounds like you have the right torch... mistakes have been known to happen in manufacturing, however... be sure to check the fittings. See the photos below, the water line (red) connector has notches and is LH thread. The black line has the RH thread.
Also, I think you had a ? on the drawing about the coupler... that is only if you need your connection from your DINSE plug back to the water cooler to go farther...

The large fitting is the power cable and the return water line, the two 5/8" fittings you should (I don't know about color coded stuff, only black and maybe red) have are one RH for gas and one LH for water from the cooler to the torch head. The water goes from the cooler to the torch head and back along the power cable to the power connection (Dinse connecter) and is diverted from the dinse connector back to the cooler. The pictures from Arc-Zone show lug adapters, but you can just imagine the instead of the lug connector there is a dinse adapter that plugs into power and has a fitting on the side to route the warm water back to the cooler. I hope I have that all right, and if so, I hope it helps. BTY air cooled can have either one or two lines, One line if the dinse connector carries the gas also, or two if the dinse is solid and gas comes from the welder in a different location or directly from the gas bottle and the flow is controled by a valve on the torch handle.

Yes, you're right, the drawing did not show a DINSE connector.. I am working on revising those pics (and set up information) as we speak! We get a lot of questions about setting up a Water Cooled torch, so rest assured, you're not the only one!

LWS and everyone else I have talked with say the same thing, the blue line for the torch should have a LH thread. The torch I have most defiantly has RH threads on it. See the photo:

Just spoke with Jeff at Miller in the TIG support/service dept. The blue hose should most defiantly have a LH thread. Miller is overnighting a new blue hose and fitting to me.
Now that’s good customer service! ;) Thank you Miller and Jeff!
