well ive been doing gas welding for 2 weeks now and ive been doing tig(aluminum and steel) for a couple days. i can run beads pretty good , nice and uniform but i cant seem to get anythin to stick together unless its a butt joint,
either i cant get the torch to it very well , or the metal kinda just bubbles up and doesnt wash in.

specifically on aluminum, should i dab before the metal becames liquid and rounds over or should i keep working at it more?

and just lettin you guys know my boces program had a dynasty300 tigrunner and ooo boy is it a nice machine!

thanx for any info

this should help a lot also it sounds like youre having truble manupliating the torch on steel. Like with t-welds and fillet weld the heat has to be very contrled compared to doing a butt weld.

For aluminum i cannot help because ive never done alum.

I am far from an expert...but from what I have learned on my own when I slowly create the puddle it melts one piece of metal back at a crazy rate (since I'm heating too slow). You need to put a lot of amperage to start the puddle (just just flooring the pedal) then lifting off and then add filler to the puddle you created from the melted base metal. At first I was too mild and I didn't step on the pedal enough I had a hard time starting a bead.

That's just my experience with aluminum, I am sure there are more guys here that can explain things better.
