I have my first mobile job tomorrow frontend collision on a van with broken motor mount boss. its cast aluminum . obviously there is a pretty big heat sink being a block . ive always done this with my aerowave in the past . tomorrow im mobile . so you think the 200dx will have the ***** or will i have to use a preheat . i normally use 4043 as it lays in nicer on cast . any settings you could reccomend on balance and tungsten would be appreciated as well thanks Dan. ps using straight argon.

I'm still a newb, but I did a repair on a Honda transmission case with my Dynasty 200. I preheated the !#% out of the case with Oxy/Act first, and I probably could've gotten away without doing so. I'd imagine you'll need to preheat to get enough penetration for a stressed area like a motor mount though.

Worked awesome im very happy did two of them today made some good coin and im extremly happy way to go miller nice little machine . no preheat necessary made about 600.00 for 3 hours work . :D Ps i did notice the ceriated tungsten split again not sure why its doing this and it was a new piece that i just bought . i put in the lan tungsten and had no problems with it. anyone else had this prob with ceriated on alum? 3/32

Way to go! Glad to hear it worked out well for you. :) I learned a couple things too - 1) Next time I get a similar repair I'll try it without preheat, and 2) I need to start charging more! :P
I see you're over in Vancouver... I wonder if there's any other locals on the board?

Yea mine is just doing it at the tip though and can only be seen while welding or with a magnifying glass . not sure why this is happening ?

I don't know whats happening either, I was welding aluminum, arc started wandering, so I took the tungsten to the grinder and was putting a flat on the tip and the photo is the result of that venture.
It is sylvania brand,2% ceria tungsten, orange band, 1/16".

I've also repaired tranny casings & mounts. Really have to watch the preheat, lots of delicate stuff inside to cook
Best success so far is with the spoolgun. Plus it's faster, so it takes less time to make the same money :D

I have used spool gun on some but most are in areas that are in the vehicle that is to hard to access with spool gun hence why i use the tig . both have there places to be used .
