Had some unwanted visitors in my home shop ~1 month ago. Took a Spectrum 701 plasma cutter and a Synchrowave 180 runner (older style~3 years old). Was stolen from the northeastern MD area; both missing all the cables/torches. Need to know if I can report the S/Ns to miller to flag them. Man am I bummed! Anyone hearing of a "sweet deal" let me know- I know it is along shot but you never know.....

Funny this subject comes up again had a another worker ask yesterday if i was intrested in a xmt304 said it came from the powerhouse job locally in my area told him if it was stolen once it broke it would be worthless no clean numbers no parts from miller. Had to exsplain how miller won,t order parts with out a serial # then he understood.what may seem as a good deal is actually not if the unit fails now youf stuck with a paperweight.

I worked in a service station for a long time we had several burglaries and quite a bit of equipment taken the next skell that came in sell "stolen stuff" was very unlucky. thats why i make it a point to never buy anything thats a GOOD deal unless the owner can prove its his. if everyone stops buy stuff like this there will be no reason for them to steal it.

Open the cover, there must be 4 locations of the seriial#, not likely someone is going to go through the hassle of finding and removing those ones too.

Sorry to hear this, well wishes for you to get it all back. Years back I had a storage unit cleaned out when I was between apartments. I lost every hand tool I owned. Sorry to say I never got one tool back from that. No insurance would cover a storage unit it is was a complete loss for me. I hope you have coverage for your gear.

Get the name and location of the pawn shops in your county. The police dept should be able to provide it. Some of our local police departments require the pawn shops register the serial numbers and items pawned daily. They can search their database and let you know right away.
I was robbed and luckily found items at one pawn shop and had the police do a serial number search. The item was found at another shop a few blocks away. That item was returned immediately. (honest pawn broker) My other items were kept for a year as the pawn broker wanted me to buy the items back. I put pressure on the police dept and they finally got disgusted and threatened to arrest him if he did not give the items back.
Your local pawn shops will swear they do not buy stolen items, but they will buy from known felons, so they are no better than the thieves.
Good luck.

myrick,
I'm sorry to hear that you had some unwanted visitors. We can flag machines in the computer as stolen. If you would like to e-mail the information to me I would be glad to flag them for you. I need the serial numbers of course, the police report #, the officer's name and a phone number that he/she can be reached at.
We have helped to recover a number of stolen units in the past and maybe we can get lucky on your machines too.
Kevin
