I think you COULD lay it down, BUT...You're a welder! Fabricate something!!!
Cut out a semicircle for the tank, or add a shelf...Stand it up & look like a professional. :)

i can think of no better anser than that 1. :)
who cares if it can lay down, looks good standing up and i dont think it's a good ideal to start laying down bottles regardless of whats in them, just a bad habbit to get into. ;)

No it dosen"t...Just like the old Nike ad, "Just do it" If I'd waited until I had the "right equipment" before doing things, I wouldn't have as much stuff, OR...know how to do as may things as I do now...
I'm not putting you down in any way, just don't wait until you have EVERYTHING you need before you do anything!

Well if you really want to be a welder some day - get used to working on a variety of surfaces and positions. Table work is always nice - but in the real world you won't be dragging your table to a site to do a repair, or out in the driveway to work on your buddy's car.

I couldn`t agree more.Fabricate man fabricate. Some things just can`t wait, aside from all the very good things that have already been said, with the bottle laying on it`s side on the floor it makes it so much eaiser for the valve to get broken off. That is a safety issue that can`t be over looked or taken lightly.Got any idea what that bottle would do with a valve broken off the top of it?I`ve seen it happen as I`m sure others here have,It becomes one wild projectile! Not something you want to have happen anywhere especially in a residentual area. It`s hard enough to get biz insurance as it is don`t make it any harder on youreself.Sorry to rant but thats how it goes.

Clinton yes you can lay it down but for safety reasons you should stand it up and secure it up right laying down you have a good chance of dropping someting and taking out your regulator or worse than that taking off the valve then you get a missle taking out anthing in its way ;)

I would not lay it down on it's side, stand it up and secure it. As with most gases i.e. Ar, Ox, Ng, He, ArCo2 mixes, they are all what is considered High Pressure tanks, meaning there is not liquid inside the tank only high pressure (Unless your looking at a liquid tank, which is a lot fatter then a high pressure tank, then there is only liquid inside, which you can then use that tank for either liquid or high pressure gas) The only time this does not come into effect is with Co2, this is always a liquid/gas no matter what size bottle you have, Ever go into a paintball store and sometimes see Bottles turned upside down? That's to get the liquid Co2 out because those tanks don't have a syphon in them to pull the liquid out. But any way, just thought i'd give a little lesson in gases :p . Hope this helps out.

you know if you shoot a bottle of argon throw your dads house im betting that will end your welding carere right then.
when i was about 7-8 yrs old my dad got me a chemestry set, long story short i blew the doors off the closet in my room and turned almost eveything blue. well after the severe beating i got i figured that was it all is good now right , done is done. rong my father never let another chemestry set in the house, not for me or eather of my brothers  one of us could have turned out to cure aid's or cancer , but we never got another chance. so dont chance it, as kids we rarely get a second chance so be very carfull with the 1 you have ;)
