Hey guys i am new to the boards and wanted to say hi.I was wondering what are good settings or what some people are setting there millermatic 210's to when welding 1/4 plate.(heat, wire speed) Say a flat peice of 1/4 plate with a standing peice(would look like an upside down T)to get full penetration.I always tend to be on the hot side and my weld doesnt have that ''stacked coins'' look,it comes out nice and smooth but looks more like arrows pointing one way.Im just concerned on getting pull penetration. Thanks for any input!!

Hi there:
The pros on this site really know there stuff but if you could provide them with a photo of youre welds and detail youre settings used it would help them out. This I've learned from hanging out hear.

Weldome aboard, and this is a debate of mass proportions. Stack of coins vs. a smooth bead. Personally I prefer the smooth bead but if done properly the coin look is fine also. I can do either but the smooth is easier for me, since it requires less manipulation to get it done. I usually go off the chart and adjust up or down slightly for position requirements, Hotter and faster for flat and slower and colder for overhead and verticle. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow.
My normal full penetration weld is a count of 1-2 then quick accross the center and count of 1-2 and repeat. I drag the weld pool{backhand** and when I say quick accross the center I actually whip the head of the gun 1/4"-3/8" but stay in the pool area. The count time allows the wire to burn into fill the undercut and fill the center. This method is fabulous and has worked for me and many others here with similar machinery.
Weld well,

I SET MY 250X AT ABOUT 19.5VOLTS/265 WIRE SPEED.
ALSO FOUND BETTER RESULTS WITH WHIPPING THE GUN METHOD.
WHAT SIZE WIRE ARE YOU RUNNING?

OOOPS: Digital camera is all DONE, I dropped a piece of 3/8 plate on it. Luckily it cost $20, not $200. I'll post the pics later this week when I get a new one.
Peace,

The Door chart should be pretty close depending upon your input voltage. Try that setting for starters on a piece of scrap. If you don't like it try same tap with ±5% of wire setting.

Thanks guys,i have gone from 35 wire to 30 now, seems better.I can get very good penetration but was lookinmg for the coin effect.Always looking to learn more is all.I tend to weld on the hotter side all the time if i can and my welds seem to flow more and give me that arrow look.Fine by me as long as its burned together good. Thanks for the help!!

Consider a safety cage for your new camera when you get it. Maybe 1/2" round bar.  lol Oh yea, post a pic of the old camera that you mortified.

At least it wasn't my NIKON!! I picked it up like roadkill---a shovel and deep six in the Round file! Believe me it was a $20 laughing fit, I laughed so hard I had to sit down. I am usually so careful but hey it wasn't my fingers, or toes so what the heck. This is precisely the reason I only spent $20.
Peace.
