Hi:
IGBT's - do these need torquing and how often?
Dielectric "grease" for board connections - do I unplug boards and use this on the connectors as a preventive before I have error codes or only after there are problems.
Thanks,
Lawrence

Lawrence,
IGBTs do not need to be re-torqued, once they are installed they need no more attention.
As far as greasing connectors, I feel it is best to leave them be unless there is a problem. If the unit is working fine that tells me that all of the connector must be well seated. Taking them apart and putting them back together puts extra wear on them and also runs the risk of losing a connection on one of the pins.
As far as performing maintenance on the unit, make sure the inside stays clean. Blow any dust out of the heat sinks and the rest of the unit. Make sure there aren't any critters taking up residence. Look for any wires that may be rubbing and re-route or repair them before they lead to a problem.

From doing maintenance on fleets of these and other XMT's, I find that once a year its best to retorque the interconnect board 5/16 head bolts, as they do loosen off with heat/cold cycles. Then that interconnect board tends to blow up usually taking the IGBT's with it. Torque spec's are on that board.
Make sure that the power to the unit is off, and meter the capacitors with a DC meter to verify that there is no power present.
Why Miller is saying that the bolts never loosen off is beyond me as thats the most popular thing to go wrong with the units in the warranty and after warranty period, unless they want you to buy the $$ interconnect and IGBT's when this happens.

AS for using Dielectric grease on the molex plugs, This may not be nessessary as there is little moisture on these boards due to the tunnel cooliing.
I do it anyways, are most of what I take care of is fleet rental maintenance thus the machines are always outside, and I don't want the machines returning for nuisance errors.
NO Dielectric on any ribbon cables though!

Hi Cruizer:
How many inch lbs should I use on the IGBTs?
Thanks,
Lawrence

I adjust my Metebo drill for a specific clutch point, however the interconnect board states the inch/lb tollerance on the board itself.
