i'm welding the frame for a demonstration robot for the local high school robotics team. nice project to practice my TIG welding on. i'm not to good a filling gaps the weld just doesn't turn out good at all just a big clump of filler metal. I still get welding to do on the frame and i gotta weld some plate for the wheel modules i'll post more pictures when i can.
The robot is going to have a crab drive drive-system and i hear talk about maybe a t-shirt cannon on top. they are more concerned with finishing the base first.

Hmmmm yes or you had a welder do it for you? NO I don't think so you don't want to miss all the fun. You just got your self a 13 hundred dollar play toy.. Hehehe It was a good investment that's for sure..

yup i do not want to miss out on anything. just threw together a 50' 10 gauge extension cord tonight. tomorrow I'll find out how good my electrical skills are I'm pretty confident since my adapter cord worked and the remote TIG control i rewired at work is working too. theres still much more i can learn though :D

A good trick for filling big gaps is to use a piece of copper behind the weld joint... Take a piece of copper pipe hammer it flat and then clamp it to the back of the weld joint and start pouring on the filler rod...
Works great with stainless not sure about aluminium...

The welders at my work use steel from what i have seen thanks for the advice. I think its a little more difficult when welding tube to fill the gap. cant just clamp steel or copper to the back of it and fill it unless im missing something.
I just made this to night its a little rough and i think i'm gonna put a handle on it. welds aren't to pretty either idk if its me but i think i have a hard time getting welds outa the D165 than the SW250 i used at work. Altho at my work i had a nice big table and a stool and was very comfortable where as in my garage......well let us just say i hardly even have a table at this point in time.
