I sold my older Italian made 40 amp plasma cutter, and am looking for a new one to replace it. I am leaning towards the miller 375 xtream, I like the idea of having a very small power unit and I have been happy with my other Miller products. The only thing, most people I have talked to recommend the Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster, because they claim the torch is a better design and does not wear out the consumables as quickly as any of the other plasma cutters on the market. Can anyone shed some light on the two 30 amp models, and how they are holding up and the cutting capacities/speed? Can they both cut expanded or perforated sheet metal without restarting the arc?
I was happy with my previous plasma cutter, I just did not want to be stuck with it if it broke. I mostly used drag tips with it, cutting under 1/4" steel and aluminum with it.

Wow!
Now there's a NEW question. Duh???
Don't forget to throw the Hypertherm Powermax 30 into the discussion.
If you do a simple search here, Welding Web, and Hobart, you'll get more comments about those three machines than you've got time to read.
Do new posters expect people to keep typing the same old comments over and over again. The 30A plasma cutters (along with the chinese junk) have been discussed in detail in MANY posts.

I have searched this forum, and other welding related forums for questions and answers on the two 30 amp cutters. I do know the hypertherm is very similar to the miller. Walking into the LWS, it easy to see that they both run on 115-130 volts, the miller tips/electrodes are cheaper than the TD, and the TD weighs in more than the Miller and cost a little less.
I am looking for an answer on how the torches and consumables compare, how the two units do on dirty, expanded and perforated metals and have yet to find a good answer online or in person as I have not tried ether unit for my self.

I have a TD 51,
Consumables last forever, well maybe not forever but a very long time.
I have not used a Miller cutter.
Not much help but more then you have gotten so far.
good luck.

I have an 82, just the other day I had twenty fire hydrants I had to cut apart from the mains I was going to scrap, (very dirty rusty coated steel), I went through one tip, actually I'm still using that tip it just isn't very accurate anymore. Hope this helps, by the way I was running 60a or so all day no problems
