AWS 3/8" D1.1 2G test

Hi guys... it's been a while...

Anywho,

I finally got my employers to spring for actual certification testing for me, the test was today, but due to a miscommunication the tester (the structural supervisor for our metal building mf'r) failed to bring enough plates to certify me for all position, so I just got to do the 2g test... I passed with flying colors, but my real question is: What does this certify me for exactly?

and...

Any tips for practicing 3/8 3G? it's something I have to do rarely @work...

well bret congrats on the cert!!! as far as i know the 2g certifies you for a Horizontal plate weld. Your piece if vertical with your weld horizontal i am assuming is what you did judging by what i know. the 3g is a vertical up weld. I would just practice my heat settings, make sure your in a comfortable position before you start, and dont forget to breath. hah. thats all i can tell ya. good luck.
