I have a TB 302 with suitcase 12rc.
When running feeder for cable reel I am get erratic arc starts. I noticed in the miller manual it states 75' from welder to feeder with 150' max lead lenght. My reel cables are 125' each. When running feeder with short cables I have no issues. I also have no issues running stick from my cable reel.
Has anybody had an issue similar to this, any input would be helpful?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, others have similar issues, which is why there is a clearly defined working limit in the manual. It is normal, and part of the things to consider when choosing that combination to do the job.

Is that just a result of the voltage drop? What if he went up one or two sizes larger on his cables?

Just my 2 cents,I noticed in the miller manual it states 75' from welder to feeder with 150' max lead lenght.
I was under the impression this applied to the Pin Cable that links the two units and was not applied to the lead/power cables. :o
I maybe wrong but this is what I was lead to believe from my LWS.;)

Thanks for the input.
My leads are 1/0 and I use to use the same setup off my trailblazer 250G with out any trouble.

Are you using the suitcase with lots of cable wrapped on the reels or is it all spooled out?
Just wondering if it's making a magnetic field and causing you grief that way.

C Wagner mentioned one possible problem wtih the cables wrapped up on the reals causing a magnetic field which slows down the current from burning the wire off causing erratic starts.
Is welding current going thru the reel assy, or does the cable just wrap around the reel? We've had plenty of customers buy reels that the current travels thru, however, many are poor designs that cause erratic arc problems.
Just some thoughts.

I have used it both ways, cables still wraped and cable all off the reel, with the same problem.
The reel is made with current running thru it.
I have used this reel with my old tb 250G with out any trouble. My old welder manual never said anything about limits to cable length.
My next step will be running the recommended cable length and see what happens.
Thanks all..
I keep you posted
