Ive decided to get a Maxstar and a Passport+(one at a time). Ive got a number of projects to do both new and repair stuff. Since the Max is a little cheaper it may be the first to come home. Ive got way more experience with a stick than a wire. I dont know how to tig but am anxious to learn.
The question is then, how thin material can be stick welded with the 150? How low can you turn it down?

I had those two exact machines that did most of my work. Well, it was the STH model, but they are definitely two of the handiest machines you can find.
I probably used the Passport more, though, for production, but the Maxstar had its place. I've welded 16-ga. with it, but would opt for the Passport if I had the choice. Some guys are really good at thin stuff with Stick. I just don't do enough of it. Some rods, like 6013 will help, but DDA52 actually prefers 6010/6011 and goes like the wind.
well for the thinner stuff first off get some small rods.(1/16) and then find ur heat setting that works for u on some scrap, keep in mind u have to move much quicker with the thin stuff.
