View Full Version : Thoughts on yesterdays race ending
I heard that they called the race yesterday because of rain, in like the 166th lap. I read some comments on it, sounded like a good race:
• Despite all the predictions that this was her year, Danica Patrick didn't win the race – again. And did ABC really have to keep showing her mother's spastic gyrations over and over again?
Is it me, or is she getting a bit over-exposed? Sure, she's good, she's cute, and she's on a great team, but still...
• I really enjoy the use of the split screen during the IndyCar Series television broadcasts that shows both the racing action and a commercial at the same time. It's ridiculous that NASCAR doesn't use it.
I didn't watch it so I didn't see it, but it seems like a good idea to me, it's not like football where they STOP EVERYTHING for TV timeouts (Guess I'm old, I can remember when Football was the priority, not the commercials, and they somehow worked the commercials around the game, not visa-versa)
• I can't help but think that had the race started at its old start time of 11 a.m local time, it would have been able to finish before the rain came and caused the race to be red flagged at 3:02 p.m.
Hmm, interesting point. Maybe a stupid question, but why didn't they just run the end of the race today, kinda like a rain out in baseball, except they pick up where they left off? Too much for the drivers, maybe? Kinda a bummer that it had to end like that, sounded like a good race to watch in spite of the rain.

Same as NASCAR, once the race reaches halfway, it's official. If it has to be stopped for the rest of the day, after that point, it's over. If they don't reach halfway, then they run the rest of it the next day. Baseball has the same rule, too, after a certain inning.

I was rooting for Marco, esp. after it was apparent John got a lousy car. I don't follow IRL too much because it's hard to actually find it on TV, but whoever Panther Racing is sure put in a pathetic showing. Too bad John had to be a part of it.

After John got shafted by Kyle Petty, he should have tried to do IRL full time again. He was probably driving while iritated at his car, when he gave Danica too much room on the track and wound up in the marbles and then the fence. Having run a full season of IRL recently would've given him a refresher on how the cars are different than NASCAR when you get out of the racing groove.

Because the media that don't overexpose her will lose to the media that do Why? Because she IS good (for a non-winner) and she's got the looks and people want to see her.
She'd probably rather be winning than on your parts counter poster, too.
She ran as high as second for much of the late race, and was in third when it was red-flagged both times.

UH MAC, Who did Kyle say was going to be one of 2 taking over the seat in his car?

John, of course. Petty fired their best driver and they know it. They wanted to fix all the cheap stuff first, like drivers (without of course, firing their worst driver Kyle Petty), and only now have they gotten around to fixing the expensive stuff, like finally getting rid of that lousy engine builder Mike Eng, and are now running with Evernham engines and have a decent staff again, like Robbie Loomis. John was always TOO loyal to where it hurt his career. He had the chance to leave them first but didn't. He stuck it out and then they fired him before they made improvement where they needed to.
You can bet it was Richard that put John in that car later this year, and not Kyle.
Last Petty Enterprises pole? John Andretti. Last Petty Enterprises win? John Andretti.

Impossible.
There's no such thing as too much money or too much Danica:eek:

well he did wreck a lot of cars but I will admit he was mostly in the middle of the pack & on back where most of the wrecks seem to happen.

Yep, since I watched his car every race, I remember it was like a black cloud was around him. Every single time he was wrecked it was the general concensus that he was just a passenger in the wrong place at the wrong time or somebody else just flat out hit him. He was always one of the nicest guys in the garage, and considered by his peers to be one of the best all-around racers there. He's won races in just about every series out there. His two Winston Cup (Nextel Cup) wins came at Daytona and Martinsville, the two most different tracks on the series.
