Blue Star® Stands Up Against Hurricane Ivan

When Hurricane Ivan hit the US Gulf Coast, many were left without power for days—even weeks. Greg Lurwig and his parents were only a few of thousands who sought alternative power sources to run their everyday, critical utilities. Lurwig, who lives and farms in central Alabama, bought a Miller Bobcat™ 250 and delivered his Miller Blue Star® engine-driven welding generator to his parents' house on the coast.
For two weeks, Lurwig's parents and their neighbors were able to run their essential household appliances off the Blue Star®. When power was restored to the area, the
Blue Star® wound up performing a different task for yet another family member; Lurwig's cousin used the Blue Star® to repair steel beams in barns that were damaged in the wake of the hurricane. Read more about the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan and how Miller's engine-driven welding generators made recovery for the Lurwig's much easier.

Safety and Performance With
Auto-darkening Helmets
While you may be familiar with auto-darkening helmets, you may not know exactly how they work, or how to use them for maximum performance and protection. Lens technology, such as Miller's Performance Series™ lens technology, has come a long way and ensures that operators are protected by darkening in 1/20,000 sec.
However, beyond advanced lens technology, auto-darkening helmets often come with adjustable shade, sensitivity and delay controls. These features, offered on Miller's Big Window Elite™, allow you to adjust the helmet according to your preferences and needs in most welding applications, while the auto-darkening lens provides continuous eye protection.
Learn more about how auto-darkening helmets can satisfy even the most demanding user. |

OEM Fabricators Makes Clean Sweep With
Axcess™ Multi-MIG Welding Systems
For continuous improvement—and tangible
results—OEM Fabricators of Woodville, Wis. looks
beyond conventional cost saving techniques to streamline their operations. Using best practices, such as "kaizen" (Japanese for continuous improvement) and "5S" (Sort, Simplify, Sweep/Shine, Standardize, Sustain), the manufacturing company, which focuses on construction and agricultural equipment, has reduced its welding costs by up to $2,000/day.
Particularly to implement work place organization and standardization, OEM now uses just one wire, one gas and the Accu-Pulse™ (GMAW-P) welding process provided by Miller's Axcess™ multi-MIG welding systems. As a result, OEM estimates that it saves up to 2.75 unproductive hours per welder, per day. Read more about how OEM uses Axcess™ Systems to reduce welding costs.
