Fraternity Pin Light

This illuminated, exterior sign, also known as a Pin Light, is a life-size replica of the Sigma Pi Fraternity badge, worn on the shirt as a pin during formal meetings. It was fabricated to replace the original one (built out of copper - circa 1940s??) which was stolen from our house a few years ago when it was taken down for re-wiring by one of the brothers. This project came in at $300 in materials and 50 hours of labor. It is made of 1/8” and 3/16” - 6061 aluminum flat bar and plate. This was a total TIG job. However, welding was completed with a Millermatic 212 MIG with a spool gun using a combination of .030 and .035 dia 4043 wire. Outside welds ground with a SAIT aluminum wheel and finished with 180 grit paper. It was taken in for powder coat inside and out and the stenciling was done by my wife, Nadia. The sign will be mounted on the fraternity house this August and will remain an illuminated icon above the front door for many generations of Sigma Pi fraternity brothers to come.
