Sculpture: "Twist and Shout"
Artist: Andrew Arvanetes, Chicago
Andrew Arvanetes' sculpture "Twist and Shout" is made of stainless steel and measures 9 feet high, 4 feet wide and 4 feet deep. The piece is a figurative mechanical character — a "self-portrait" — as are most of his pieces. It was inspired by, and is a reflection of, Arvanetes' joy in returning to Chicago after many years of living elsewhere; some of his work is on now display in the Chicago Sculpture Exhibit, the Chicago Park District/Chicago Sculpture International Exhibition and the Oak Park Sculpture Walk. Arvanetes recently was selected to be a Featured Artist in the 17th annual Chicago Artists Month in conjunction with the Chicago Sculpture Exhibition.
Arvanetes has been producing mild steel, bronze and stainless steel sculptures for more than 30 years. He enjoys the permanence of metal materials, noting that because metal is available in such a wide variety of sizes and shapes, it's perfect for the additive process. "It's a very forgiving material," he says. "Sections can be removed or replaced and the surfaces and planes can be blended and smoothed together, making any imperfections disappear!" Arvanetes notes that he always has relied on Miller® products to fabricate his work, and appreciates their reliability and ease of operation.
