2" x 72" belt grinder/sander

by J. Hoying Email J. Hoying

Project Description

I've been wanting to make a 2" x 72" belt sander/grinder for deburring and shaping metal, so I checked out a lot of YouTube videos for ideas and proceeded to design it using some scrap metal that I had. The main part is actually a used class 4 Reese hitch receiver. I extended the length at the bottom by 24". I had a 1 1/2 hp, 3400 rpm motor, and bought bearings and wheels to complete the tool. It works great!

Build Process

Scratched my head for a few days, and then started welding. Design was pretty much done during the build process. Painted Ford tractor blue to match my Miller. There are no plans available, but photos of the construction process are at www.pbase.com/jmhoying/grinder.

Tools Used

Miller Autoset 180, hand grinder. 10" contact wheel available from Grizzly (purchased through Amazon)
