Upright smoker in 1/4" steel

by G. Lowe

Project Description

The project was to build an upright smoker with firebox to augment my current horizontal smoker in the outdoor kitchen. The upright smoker would have a 2'x2'x2' firebox and a 2'x2'x4' cooking chamber on a cart for basic mobility.

Build Process

Started the build using steel plate, rod, angle, and pipe purchased from a local steel supplier. The build was serialized on the fly with the cart first then firebox and finally the cooking chamber. it was a one person job and the completed smoker weighs ~900 lbs. The concept was a combination of dimensions provided by software and viewing other existing upright smokers.

Tools Used

Fabrication required a Miller 212 MIG, a plasma torch, chop saw, grinders, shop crane, 20 ton press with brake, and other misc bench tools/clamps.
