Bi-Directional Utility Trailer Gate

by T. Schlake

Project Description

Built this utility trailer ramp/gate for a friend. The gate is on a 5 x 14 utility trailer. It is 40" long and folds forward when not in use. A pin can be pulled on the left side allowing quick removal of the gate. The latches were purchased and welded into place on the ramp itself. When folded forward, the gate latches lock the gate down for added safety. The drivers side of the gate has an additional hole to allow locking with a padlock. And since I know how it goes here - There were no plans when I made this gate. 2" x 1/8th angle 3/4 x #9 expanded steel mesh (raised)

Build Process

Weld outer edges of the gate, add the expanded mesh, then weld in the middle supports. Next add the hinge pins, lay the gate into the trailer, and weld the "hinges" onto the back of the trailer. Finish by adding the locking tabs.

Tools Used

Miller 211, Miller Spectrum 375, abrasive chop saw, grinder, big hammer.
