Project: Adjustable Stand
When you need an extra hand to manage large workpieces, this simple adjustable stand is extremely helpful. It acts similar to a sawhorse for supporting materials.
Materials Needed
- (3) Legs, 1 inch (25.4 mm) Angle Iron cut to 23 inches (584.2 mm)
- Support, 1-1/4 inch (31.7 mm) Angle Iron cut to 10 inches (254 mm)
- (2) Ends, 1-1/4 inch (31.7 mm) Angle Iron cut to 4 inches (101.6 mm)
- Slide, 1 inch (25.4 mm) Pipe cut to 18 inches (457.2 mm)
- Trunk, 1-1/4 inch (31.7 mm) Pipe cut to 6 inches (152.4 mm)
- Rod, 1/4 inch (6.3 mm) Rod cut to 3 inches (76.2 mm)
- Hex Head Bolt, 1 inch (25.4 mm)
- Matching Hex Head Nut
- Paint
Examine dimensions and materials before you start. Most dimensions can be tailored to fit your exact needs. Other materials and thicknesses may also be substituted.
Tools Needed
- Grinder
- Drill and Drill Bits
- Chop Saw or Plasma Cutter, such as the Miller Spectrum 625
- MIG Welder, such as the Millermatic 180
- Safety Apparel

| 1. | Cut materials to size. If necessary, use grinder to remove burrs and sharp edges from pieces. |

| 2. | Weld both end pieces to support. |
|
| 3. | Tack weld end of Slide to bottom edge of Support. |
|
| 4. | Drill a hole large enough to accommodate bolt 1 inch (25.4 mm) from one end of the Trunk. |
|
| 5. | Weld Hex Head Nut flush to the inside wall of the Trunk. |

Tack weld the three Legs to the Trunk about 1 inch (25.4 mm) below the Nut. Be sure they are evenly spaced around the Trunk and loacted at the proper angle to provide maximum stability. Then, complete the welds.
Variation: If additional support is desired for heavier weights, increase leg strength by welding a cross member between each of the Legs. |

| 7. | Weld the Rod to the head of Bolt. |

| 8. | Place Slide into Trunk. Insert the Bolt and adjust stand to desired height. |
|
| 9. | Brush welds smooth and paint if desired. | |
